In doing so, the county hopes to engage residents both in the decision-making process and in proactive initiatives that safeguard this vital coastal asset.
Understanding the Resiliency Study's Importance
This 2.5-mile stretch of the Dunedin Causeway, connecting Honeymoon Island to US 19, has been critically evaluated to identify pressing needs and improvement opportunities. Notably, while the two causeway bridges are excluded from this study—having already been determined to require replacement—the focus remains firmly on enhancing the causeway's resilience against environmental changes.

At a recent public meeting held at the Dunedin Library, many local residents shared their thoughts and concerns regarding the adaptation plan. Jay Botsch, a community member, voiced support for the initiative: "The timing is right. I mean it was damaged. It's going to cost money to probably get it back to where it needs to be. Do you take that time and other opportunities to make that a lot better?" His sentiment resonates with many who are eager to see the causeway not just restored but improved.

Funded by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the study suggests significant improvements such as retaining walls, roadway stabilization, and the addition of mangroves and oyster reefs.
